Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Elayne cost?
Elayne is full-service from start to finish. You can begin with an Estate Discovery Report for $250, which gives you a clear roadmap, realistic timeline, and a sense of what the settlement will involve.
From there, we'll provide an accurate estimate for the full settlement. On average, families pay about 50% less with Elayne than with traditional settlement services. And settlement fees come from the estate, not your pocket.
What makes Elayne different from hiring an attorney?
Elayne handles the time-consuming work—asset discovery, paperwork, notifications, and follow-ups—at a fraction of traditional costs, while connecting you with attorneys for the parts that require legal expertise.
What makes Elayne different from other options?
Elayne is the first service built to settle the estate for you, not just point you in the right direction. We've been through this ourselves and know the process is broken: coordinating between attorneys, banks, and institutions while paying more than you should.
We're your single point of support through all of it. We handle the paperwork, calls, and deadlines, and bring in attorneys or CPAs only when their expertise is actually needed—giving you back time, money, and peace of mind.
What’s included in each Elayne plan?
Self-Guided gives you a clear roadmap and keeps your family organized with shared access. You handle all the tasks yourself using our step-by-step guidance. Concierge means we do the heavy lifting - making calls, filing paperwork, searching for assets, closing accounts. You review and approve; we handle execution. Plus you get personalized guidance from real people who understand what you're going through.
Do I still need a lawyer?
It depends on the estate. Some settlements don't require an attorney at all. But when legal expertise is needed, you can invite your own attorney to your Elayne account or work with one of our trusted partners at a discounted rate.
Either way, Elayne handles the admin work so you're not paying legal rates for busywork.
How long will I need Concierge?
Most estates take 6-18 months to fully settle, but many families complete the bulk of the work in 3-4 months with our help.
How long does settlement take?
It depends on the estate's complexity and your state's requirements. Simple estates can settle in a few months. Estates that go through probate typically take 12–24 months. Elayne helps speed things up by staying on top of deadlines, following up with courthouses and institutions, and keeping the process moving.
Can I switch between Self-Guided and Concierge later?
Absolutely - you can start with Self-Guided to see how much time it takes, then upgrade to Concierge when you realize you need help.
Is my information secure?
Yes. Elayne uses bank-level encryption. We never sell your information, and only the people involved in your settlement can access it.
Can I invite other family members to my account?
Yes! All Elayne plans include shared family access. Everyone can see progress, access documents, and collaborate - which reduces confusion and duplicate effort during an already difficult time.
Can I start free and upgrade later?
Yes. You can begin with Self-Guided and upgrade to the full Discovery Report whenever you're ready. The work you've already done, like documents uploaded, and confirmed contacts, carry over.
What if I don't continue after the Discovery Report?
The report is yours to keep. You can use it to move forward on your own or share it with your own professionals. If you continue with Elayne, your $250 is credited toward your settlement fee.
